Pipestave Stadium Jumping Practice/ Cross Country Schooling & Pipestave Derby Cross!

Stadium Practice: Courses from 18" crossrails up to 2'11"
Beautiful jumps for all levels! Your trainer may coach you in the ring! $30 entry fee per horse/rider combination for up to six rounds!
Cross Country: Posted course at 2’ most jumps have 2’7” options
Escort option available $20 entry fee per horse/rider combination for two XC trips
Pipestave Derby Cross: Jump a cross country course (2’ or 2’7”) leading directly into a Stadium course at 2’ to 2’3”. Ribbons to 8th place! Full Details below. $10 additional entry fee with any Practice entry, or $45 for Derby Cross Only
Stadium Jumping Practice, 8 – 11 AM:
This is an opportunity for horses and riders to practice over the
stadium obstacles used in the Pipestave Hill Horse Trials stadium
phase*. Come and tune up over interesting courses for the fall season,
or bring a green horse to school away from home. Riders pay a flat fee
of $30 to jump up to six (6) rounds at heights from crossrails/18" up to
2'11”. Riders may jump at one height or several heights as they wish.
First round at 8 AM at crossrails/18”. Rounds are not scored, judged or
timed. *Please note the actual course designs for the October PHHT stadium phase will be different.
Cross Country Practice, 8 – 11 AM:
This is an opportunity for horses and riders to practice over a flagged
course of 10-12 natural obstacles used in the Pipestave Hill Horse
Trials. Unjudged. Fence stewards will be positioned at some obstacles
for safety. $20 per horse/rider combination to school two rounds.
Jumps are 2 feet or many with a high option of max 2’7”. Jump whichever
height you please. Escort: Adult/trainer riding escort at reduced rate for juniors/beginners. $10 & signed entry form required.
Pipestave Derby Cross: 11:15
AM: Now that you have practiced, test your skills in a Derby Cross
course of natural obstacles and stadium jumps! One at a time, entrants
will jump a posted course of 20-22 obstacles, starting on the cross
country course and continuing directly into the Stadium ring. 8-10
natural obstacles lead directly (no stopping) into a Stadium course of
8-10 efforts at 2’ to max 2’3”.
Scoring: Cross
Country section, penalties assessed for refusals. Stadium Section,
penalties assessed for knockdowns, refusals. Both sections, fall of
horse or rider causes elimination. Off Course causes elimination.
Third refusal at same obstacle is elimination. Fourth refusal in the
entire course is elimination. Ties: After all
Competitors have gone, any Ties will be broken by a timed jump-off in
the Stadium portion over a shortened course. Ribbons to 8th place. If
sufficient entries, will divide by age (Junior-Senior-Masters) or
horse/pony or other creative method, to be announced prior to start of
class.
This event is held rain or shine, footing permitting. Pre-registered entrants will be notified by phone on August 6 if event is canceled.
A Few Volunteers:
Of course, we can't run these fun activities without volunteers! This
is a relatively simple event, so only 8 - 10 people are needed. Some
volunteers can ride too and can enter at a reduced rate of $20!!
Kathryn will also consider applying a parent or spouse's volunteer
discount to the entry fee of their child or spouse.
Volunteer Jobs:
Saturday August 6 Set-up:
2-4 people for 2-3 hours, late afternoon. Assist with the following:
remove jumps from trailer and set up in ring; place tables/trash cans
around rings. Flag Cross Country course Parking:
Direct horse trailers and vans to parking areas. Requires standing, or
bring your own chair for the lulls. 1 person, 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM Registration:
Check in riders and hand out packets. At end of shift, place tables in
Kathryn's truck. A mostly sit-down job. 1 or 2 people, 7:30 AM to
10:30 AM Jump Crew: Replace
rails after knock downs, assist with jump height changes. First shift
will assist with initial course set up such as placing jump cups on the
standards. At conclusion of event, 2nd shift will assist with putting
jumps back in trailer and general clean-up. Most of the time will be
spent standing and watching (or sitting – bring your own chair). First
shift (1-2 people) 7 to 10 AM; second shift (2-4 people) 10AM to 1 PM Stadium Steward: Start riders in Stadium ring at safe intervals, monitor for safety. 1 person, 7:45 AM to 11 AM Cross Country Steward: Collect chits from riders, start riders at safe intervals, monitor for safety. 2 people, 7:45 AM to 11 AM Cross Country Judge:
Give Derby Cross riders the starting signal and note any refusals on
course. 1 Person, 11 – noon. Can combine with Cross Country Steward.
Anyone who has been a fence judge can do this. Stadium Judge and Timer:
Judge Stadium portion of Derby Cross by recording knockdowns and
refusals. If a jump off is required. Time the jump off rounds and
record knockdowns and refusals. 1 Person, 11 – noon. Can combine with
jump crew or registration or parking.
