WNRDC TRAILS REWARDS PROGRAM

The WNRDC Trails Reward program is to encourage and recognize all riding/driving adventures outside of the arena environment, whether it is a 20 minute cool down ride, a 3 hour trail ride, a drive around the roads or a structured trail ride/competition. Started in 2010, the program will run each calendar year.

GENERAL RULES

Membership:  All members of the WNRDC, including family are eligible to participate. Current membership in WNRDC is required of all participants.

Cost:  A nominal fee of $10.00 will be collected with the log sheets to cover any associated costs such as prizes and/or recognitions. There will be a discount of $5.00 for current ECTA members. If there are funds remaining, those profits will be awarded to the WNRDC or ECTA trail maintenance programs.

Log Sheets and Due Date:  Log sheets will be available at the WNRDC website. They can be filled out at anytime but must be turned in at the end of the calendar year. Final due date is January 15th of the following year to allow time to fill in the last ride/drive of the year and time to process.

Rewards:  Results and recognitions will be given at the annual winter potluck.

Categories:  Main categories will be:

  • Hours of riding, Junior/Senior standings, if submissions warrant
  • Driving
  • Most West Newbury trails
  • Fun categories such as most wildlife seen (did the 5 vultures up in a tree make you fear for your horse?), worst weather, biggest group, strangest adventure (did your horse try to lie down with you in Mill Pond?), etc.

Riding Locations:  Trail riding/driving does not have to be in West Newbury but should be local such as beach rides or fall foliage excursions (we don’t think it fair to include rides done while wintering outside of New England – an advantage over those intrepid riders who brave New England winters to keep riding). Riding out with recognized hunts, except for those occurring in West Newbury should not count toward recognition. Adventure Trail participation is encouraged.

Trail Maintenance Rewards:  If any participant (or a close family member) volunteers any trail maintenance, that activity will add to the hours accumulated at a double rate.
