Adventure Trail Day
Pipestave Hill Equestrian Area, West Newbury, MA
Sunday, September 15, 2013
September is just right for fun.
Bring your team or we'll find you one.
Pipestave's great for its jumps and trails.
Games and laughter - never fails.
Come with your friends - it's for all.
Bring family too; they'll have a ball.
For this fun day, don't primp your horse.
We hope to see you on the course!
Please join us for a non-competitive, fun, team ADVENTURE trail ride on the lovely trails
and fields on adjoining town properties at Pipestave Hill/Mill Pond, Riverbend and Dunn Farm (conditions allowing).
Teams of two to five riders will travel a course of 3+ miles through trails and fields that will include natural and man-made challenged similar to horse you might encounter on any trail ride (and some fun ones you might not!). All challenges are optional, so riders of all levels can participate.
Adventure Trail is NOT timed or scored. Travel at your own pace! Volunteers will be on course to assist challenges, directions and safety. The event will be held rain or shine with the course adjusted as needed for safety.
KUDOS FROM THE PAST:
"The 4 in our group thoroughly enjoyed the Adventure Ride on Sunday! What a great event, and excellent for horses to have fun and to accommodate a lot of different situations and requests from their riders. Please pass on to the group who put it together that we all loved it, the trails were great, the volunteers helpful and everyone else I have talked with who also went on the ride loved it A LOT as well!" Lisa White, Boxford, MA
Timing: Ride times will be spaced in 2-5 minute intervals. We will try to accommodate you to 15 minutes before or after your requested times, and will contact you if there is a substantial change of your ride time.
Post Entries: Post entries on the day of the ride will be given the next available ride time. No post entries accepted after 11:30 AM the day of the ride and the last ride will go out at 12 noon.
Posting of Ride Times: Assigned ride times will be posted by the end of the day on Friday, September 14th on WNRDC Facebook. If you do not use Facebook, please contact the organizer directly for your ride times.
Late Arrivals: If you arrive after your ride time, you may not be able to ride and will forfeit your entry fees, if there is no available later time. In the case of a member of a team being late, the rest of the team can chose to ride or forfeit, if there is no available later time. If you have a delay, call Sophiea at 781-286-0729. PLEASE DO NOT TEXT MESSAGE.
ENTRIES & FEES
Pre-Registration: $30 per person
Mail your entry form with check and Coggins. Entries must be postmarked by Wednesday, September 11th. Please give your team name, with whom you are planning to ride, and preferred ride time.
Post Entry: $35 per person
You may enter on the day but please note that pre-registered entrants will be given priority as we allocate start times. Reminder, last post entries taken at 11:30 AM with last ride out at 12:00. SORRY, NO EXCEPTIONS THIS YEAR!
Volunteer and Ride: $20.00 per person
You can save big by volunteering! Help is needed in setting up the course the day before, clean-up afterwards and other activities. Contact Sophiea to see what you can do to help. You can also use a WNRDC volunteer card from a previous volunteer activity to save if you cannot volunteer at this event. Sorry, no double discounts.
FORMAT
Attire: Casual attire is just perfect but helmets with a chinstrap and hard soled shoes/boots are required for safety.
Team Size: Teams are 2 - 5 riders. Exceptions have been made for instructors accompanying students but we need to know ahead of time and retain the right to say no exception. If you do not have a team partner, contact Sophiea Bitel to see if she can match you up.
Check-In & Start: Teams check-in with the Secretary. Post entries must have their signed entry form, Coggins and payment (cash or check only). Once mounted and ready, teams approach the Starter just before their departure time.
Route Etiquette: There will be volunteer spotters and assistants along the route. If you are having trouble with a jump or obstacle, we ask that you be courteous to other participants and move on if you mount is not cooperating. Volunteers may ask you to skip an obstacle for safety reasons, or to allow other teams to negotiate the obstacle or jump.
Finish: At the end of your ride, check back in and receive your ribbons for completing the Adventure Trail.
TRAIL OBSTACLES
Our trail obstacles will have varying degrees of difficulty and some will have an easy option. Each rider can decide what to attempt or to skip some completely. The trail route and challenges change from year to year.
JUMPS (All are optional)
There will be a mix of cross country and stadium jumps. None will exceed 2'7" and many will be much smaller. Riders may pick and choose their height option at each jump, or go around. Mix and match heights throughout the course, or choose the same level at every fence. It's up to you!
The Rocks Village Bridge that provides access to Pipestave Hill from 495 is now closed for repairs for the foreseeable future. Click here for alternate directions.
