Western Dressage Demonstration

Sponsored by:

Western Dressage Association of Massachusetts (WDAMA) and West Newbury Riding and Driving Club (WNRDC)

Members and Non-Members welcome!

March 29th, 10am – 12pm

Riverrun Farm

540 Main Street, West Newbury

WDAMA and WNRDC are pleased to offer a demonstration of Western Dressage, one of the fastest growing disciplines in the country. At this demonstration we will show Danville Dinero, Morgan gelding ridden by Chuck Patti (trainer) and Nady Peters (owner) and Aspen Five Oh, Quarter Horse mare ridden and owned by Regina Downey.

Just getting started in Western Dressage? Looking for tips to improve your tests? Are you a dressage enthusiast curious about what you are seeing at shows? Come join this great learning opportunity and find out more about the growing sport of Western Dressage and get a chance to speak with Board members of WDAMA. Following the demonstration, WDAMA will have a meeting with its members and hand out the WDAMA Year End awards, so you can help celebrate their success!

Who is WDAMA?

WDAMA is a state affiliate of the Western Dressage Association of America and we share the mission that combines western traditions of horse and rider with classical Dressage. We honor the horse, we value the partnership between horse and rider. We celebrate the legacy of the American West. WDAMA’s purpose is to grow the western dressage discipline in new England by providing education and providing an opportunity for clinics, forms and shows and building relationships with other organizations.

The Horses

Danville Dinero (Nero) has been competed in Western Dressage since 2015. He started at the Basic level and last year was shown by Nady at Level 2 and by Chuck at Level 3. He is currently training at Level 4. He has won 3 World Championships and a Reserve World Championship and has numerous titles and wins. He won the WDAA Silver and Gold Medal last year as well as the USEF Horse of the Year Western Dressage Level 2.

Aspen Five Oh and Regina’s journey in Western Dressage started in 2016. She currently is shown by Regina at Level 1 and are working to move up to Level 2. She has won numerous titles and Championships and last year was ranked 4th in the USEF Horse of the Year Western Dressage Level 1. Both horses are training under Chuck Patti.

Chuck Patti

Chuck has over 40 years of experience riding, training and showing all types of horses in Western and English disciplines and has used the concept of dressage principles for western horses in his training for years. He has too many championships and wins to list them all! Chuck and his students successfully compete in Western Dressage at Open Breed and Morgan Horse Competitions. Chuck won the Western Dressage Level 3 World Championship in 2019 at the Morgan Grand National with Danville Dinero. In addition to Western Dressage, Chuck competes in Ranch Riding, Trail, and other disciplines in the Paint Horse Shows.

Update on WNRDC Mower Replacement – can you help?

This past fall, the mower used for the rings and the fields at Pipestave Hill broke down and was deemed “un-repairable”. As such, the club purchased a zero-turn, heavy duty, riding mower which will allow us to not only mow the rings but the pathways on the cross-country course. It will also make it possible to cut the grass quite close to the various jumps. Purchasing a new mower was quite expensive. Please Click HERE if you’d like to contribute towards the purchase. It would be GREATLY appreciated.

If you’d rather send a check in the mail, please make check payable to WNRDC and reference “mower” in the memo field. Mail to:

Kathy Feehery, Treasurer

West Newbury Trails Presentation Re-Cap

On February 12th, Deb Hamilton presented a talk on West Newbury trails which was held at the GAR Memorial Library. Approximately 30 people were in attendance ranging from interested towns people, hikers, and horse owners, among others. Deb gave a comprehensive talk regarding who developed the various trails, who maintains them, how are they marked as well as what activities are permitted. Representatives from ECTA, WN Conservation Commission, and Open Space Committee were in attendance as well. Thanks Deb for an entertaining and informational evening.

WNRDC Polo Shirts

What better time to buy a beautiful WNRDC polo shirt than during our 100th year! The shirts are $35 each. Please contact Barb Hill at barbkhill@comcast.net to get yours today.

We really need your help! Many hands make light work. If you lack time but want to be involved - get creative – perhaps some jobs can be shared! If you can volunteer in any of the following capacities, it would be greatly appreciated!

We are looking to add one or two people to help out in the Pipestave mowing rotation. With our new zero turn 60” mower deck, this task should be much easier and less time consuming! All equipment is provided. Please contact Jeffrey_clewley@yahoo.com

Did you know that when you volunteer at one of our events, or on the set up or clean up day, in addition to being able to earn a $10 discount volunteer card, you’re also entered into a $50 volunteer raffle, which is drawn twice a year!

A TRIP TO REMEMBER – Kilkea Castle, Ireland

This past January, club members Cindy Foote, Wendy Willis, and Edie McKinnon went on an adventure to Kilkea Castle, Ireland, est. 1180. Daily fox-hunting, falconry, archery, visiting neighboring thoroughbred training farms, a ride up Wicklow Mountain, spa treatments, and gourmet food were some of the highlights of the trip. Cindy says, “The Dublin Horse Show is July 15-19 and a group should get together and go!” If you see any of these ladies, I’m sure they’d be happy to talk with you about their Kilkea Castle trip. Check out some of the breath-taking fox hunt ditch crossings!! CLICK HERE to watch slide show.
