Page School/Pipestave Hill Safety Audit

The Town of West Newbury is working with TEC, a transportation planning and engineering firm, to identify opportunities to improve pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian safety along Main Street (Route 113) near the Page School and the Pipestave Hill Recreation Area. Improvements to promote non-vehicular travel along Main Street (Route 113) and to create safe, visible crossings between facilities are under consideration.

The Town Administrator is seeking input from the WNRDC Board of Directors early in the process. As such, the WNRDC Board has suggested that an equestrian/pedestrian activated light to stop traffic at the Page School/Pipestave Hill crossing would greatly enhance the safety of pedestrians as well as equestrians who seek to cross the road at that location.

If you’d like to share your experiences, have questions, concerns or thoughts for improvements, please contact, Deb Hamilton (WNRDC Vice President) or Elizabeth Oltman (TEC consultant).

Below is Town Manager, Jim Blanchard’s, article which shows the scope of the Safety Audit which begins west of Coffin Street and ends east of Chase Street.
